Hi, I’m Jim and as some of you may know, I run a YouTube channel called jimmericks! – YouTube Channel
If you have been watching my videos on YouTube for a while, you will know that around May-time last year I passed my practical driving test – one of the most useful and rewarding achievements I have ever completed. I cannot stress enough how important I feel it is for young people like myself to pass their driving test, not only to give you more independence, but to enhance essential skills that you need in your everyday life, such as being more aware of the world around you. Even getting a better understanding of how the highway code works, which ultimately (as silly as it sounds) improves the way you act as a pedestrian or cyclist. It is for this very reason that I am very excited to be working with Marmalade to help more young drivers get on the road and to help spread awareness and voice my own opinions about young drivers’ rights.
Today I am here to talk to you about one of the questions many young drivers feel the need to ponder about – ‘How many hours experience do I need before attempting my test?’ I would like to take the time to mention how achievable and viable it is to be able to pass your test from driving lessons alone – this is the way that I did it. I can definitely relate to people on lower incomes and less privileged backgrounds, my own reasons for having only lessons due to being a student. Because of this I understand that not everyone will be in the situation where they can afford provisional insurance on a car at home to be able to practice in their own time. However, with companies such as marmalade, nowadays this is a much more affordable and available option.
As mentioned above, my own experience of learning to drive was purely from lessons alone, and I passed my test on the second attempt. It is a very common thing for people to not pass first time and it is nothing to worry about if this happens to you – I considered it an advantage on my second attempt as I had experienced the format of the test once already; so try not to be too bummed out about it if you don’t pass first time! Plenty of young drivers who have been through this are here to help you, myself included, so if you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me on my YouTube channel or on my social media platforms and I’ll be happy to answer your questions!
That’s it from me for now, so if you have any queries about anything I mentioned here today, make sure to get in contact with myself or the team at marmalade and we’ll be happy to help you!
But for now, happy driving!
